Welcome to my classroom.I have been teaching in Michigan for over 8 years. Due to the economy and district budget constraints, I’ve had to bounce around a lot. I’ve previously taught in Armada, West Bloomfield, and Clarkston. I feel very fortunate to be in a district that is growing and improving in the face of economic adversity.

Besides teaching in Armada, W. Bloomfield, Clarkston, and Oxford, personal experience traveling has impacted my views as an educator in the classroom. I’ve had the privilege of teaching middle and high school Math and English at a school in Mombasa, Kenya (East Africa) as a summer volunteer. I recently had the opportunity to spend time in Mexico assisting low-income families. I’ve also co-directed an educational scholarship fund for disadvantaged youth in Brazil. This volunteer effort was as part of an alternative spring break project. Lastly, my final semester of college was spent studying in the Netherlands, which opened up the opportunity to travel and experience the culture of many eastern European countries.

In addition to traveling and teaching, I was also able to create mathematics educational videos that focused on combining student pop-culture and mathematical concepts. In addition to video production, I have presented various uses of formative assessment strategies to teachers at the Macomb Intermediate School District. I have become a voice in region wide mathematics education and strive to continue having an influence.

In short, I possess the understanding of what is new and current in the profession of teaching mathematics. I’m looking to re-create how students see mathematics by drawing from my unique past experiences, sense of humor, and creativity. I feel I have a lot to offer Oxford students in terms of preparing them for the world after High School and strive to be a positive role-model that accurately represents the expectations Oxford Schools.
